Running in the rain

Less than 24 hours until the Minneapolis Half Marathon!  Up until today, I was a bit nervous about the race--13.1 miles is a long way to go--but I got over myself and am now just excited about it.  Going to the race packet pickup today definitely helped because seeing a TON of fellow racers of all shapes and sizes and feeling the energy in the room made it seem less daunting.  Honestly, if worse comes to worse and my time is slower than my goal or if I have to walk a bit, who really cares?  The only person that I have to please is myself and so I've decided to go out, have a good time, and then properly celebrate crossing the finish line.  It will be an automatic PR (!!!) and a great starting place for future half and full marathons :) .  Take that perfectionism!

I'm a little bit bummed (okay, more than a little bit) that none of my family will be able to be there--my dad has to work, my sister is being recognized at church, and my mom and brother will be at my sister's recognition.  Perfect timing, right?  As the entire family went to cheer my dad on when he ran the Twin Cities Marathon a few years back, I can't help but feel a bit slighted...but I know that they're supportive and I guess that's life.  C'est la vie.

Weather-wise, it's supposed to be cool and rainy for the race, which is just the way I like it.  Running in the rain, particularly to classical music, is really soothing yet energizing to me--I guess the best way to explain it is that I feel really relaxed mentally but the rain stokes my inner fire/drive.  I'm not sure how many of the other runners will be as pleased as I am with the forecast, so perhaps I'll have to burst out into some "singing in the rain" to boost moral.  I'm certainly not above doing that :)
