Wednesday August 25: Day 4 on Paros

Today started around 6am again today, but since Sofia loves to talk, we didn’t actually start work until after 7.  We finished a little after 10am and then I had the rest of the day to do as I pleased.  In theory it sounds wonderful except that in practice, Greece is extremely hot and since walking is my only form of transportation, walking a few miles to get anywhere in the heat isn’t so appealing.  After a shower and lunch, I spent the afternoon napping, reading, working on French via Rosetta Stone, and chatting with Sofia.

By 7pm it was cool enough to go out, although I didn’t have much time to explore since it gets dark rapidly after the sun sets at 8pm.  I went for a short hike (about a mile) up a road into the mountains to watch the sunset.
Looking back on the road 1/4 of the way up
The top of the road runs alongside the western edge of the island, making the view of the cliffs, sea, and neighboring islands breathtaking at sunset.
I think I’m going to make a nightly ritual of watching the sunset form up there.  With the wind in my hair and only sheep and seabirds for company, the large flat rock I found near the cliff face is the perfect place to unwind and reflect upon the day.
